I will be shocked if this PPv does over a million... Probably around the 600k mark, which is still a lot of buys.. Maybe as high as 800k
While everything above here is true, the one thing that you're forgetting is that at this point in time, they are the faces of their country. All Mexicans know who Canelo is and all Puerto Ricans know who Cotto is. It's still a mega fight to those people. Caucasian's on the other hand, not so much. Still a good fight regardless.

Don't ever believe promoters when they are hyping a fight.

I was a child but I did watch DLH vs Trinidad live on PPV and I remember way more hype about this fight than what Canelo-Cotto is getting. I was 10 years old and all my other similarly aged friends were speaking about it, and so was every man, women, and old person. DLH is a promoter though so he has to talk up his this fight. It's a big fight, but DLH-Trinidad had a lot of hype, DLH was The Golden Boy, really at the time. I remember getting 'Sports Illustrated for Kids' from the school I was attending, monthly issues, and Oscar De La Hoya used to come up a lot in articles. He was insanely popular. One magazine had a poster of DLH, another previous one had a poster of JCC.

It was crazy popular for sure. Canelo-Cotto, as far as promotion, exposure, conversations from normal people, it's like this is an underground fight in an unknown fight club type of establishment. Like nobody knows about it, nobody talks about it. This fight should have posters all over Time Square and NYC train stations and be all over basic TV channel commercials, I know it's gonna be in Vegas but still. But it's not? Makes you think GBP is broke and can't afford heavy promotional expenses, or Roc Nation can't afford it? (They ARE the lead promoter right?). This is a great match up, it deserves more promotion. I know about it cause i'm a hardcore fan, but does the normal person who doesn't watch boxing aware of this fight?

I think you'll probably start to see a lot more advertising when we get closer to the fight

I was just about to say the same thing. We are still a little under 3 months out. When it gets into late September/early October, we will start to see the promotional part pick up steam.

'yeah.' and it was only brought up because people know i watch boxing.

i bet cotto and canelo could walk down the street and most people wouldnt have any clue as to who they are.
