Comments Thread For: De La Hoya Firm: Cotto-Canelo Bigger Than Trinidad-DLH

New York - When Oscar De La Hoya regained control of his promotional company, Golden Boy Promotions, he made a promise to the fans. The promise was that he was willing to make the best fights and work with other promoters to do so.

“We had a vision, we have one goal and that’s to put the best against the best for the fans,” De La Hoya said to BoxingScene.com “Along with my partner Bernard Hopkins, we have accomplished Canelo Alvarez and Miguel Cotto will be the most anticipated fight of the year, of the last recent years.”

    No, it's not...

Oscar and tito were both prime, undefeated, top p4p guys, and between them had totally cleaned out welter division..

Canelo is prime, cotto is past prime, neither has cleaned out a division..neither is p4p, and both have humiliating losses..

I will be shocked if this PPv does over a million... Probably around the 600k mark, which is still a lot of buys.. Maybe as high as 800k

I agree with you on oscar And tito being bigger boxing wise. But this fight will do ver 1 milion buys close to the 2 million. Remember is a Mexican and Rican fighting here.

This cant be compared with tito vs dlh because w didnt have the internet back then, facebook twitter instagram etc where you see the fight everywhere everyday. Before it was just advertised on tv radio and local places like restaurants billboards etc.

This fight will do more than pbf vs berto thats for sure.

i remember people talking about de la hoya vs trinidad in real life. i've never heard anyone mention cotto or canelo in real life except this one time at work some guy was like 'who's that guy mayweather wont fight?' i asked if he meant pacquiao and hes like 'no the other one..' canelo? 'yeah.' and it was only brought up because people know i watch boxing.

i bet cotto and canelo could walk down the street and most people wouldnt have any clue as to who they are.

Financially it might be. Oscar set the tone and Floyd and Pac smashed every record ever since. Things seem to be different with PPV buys these days. Not sure why.

Oscar and Tito though...that was a huge huge fight. They were both undefeated, top 5 p4p, in their prime. I'm not sure there has been a fight since that matched two guys that close to their peak in a true superfight.

Who cares about numbers and money, ******?? It will be a better fight than any floyd fight. It will have more viewers too. Two full countries and the latinos living in the US which are a larger crowd and mnore loyal than Afroamericans will be watching. as well as other people.

In what sense? Trinidad-De La Hoya were two undefeated welterweight champions in their prime unifying the division.. We haven't even seen many fights on that level since.

I wouldn't be so sure that it does more than Mayweather-Berto. Without Mayweather or Pacquiao, both Cotto and Canelo havent done any better than 300k buys.
