  • Comments Thread For: Cunningham mulling cruiserweight return or adding pounds

Steve Cunningham has gone 4-3-1 since the former cruiserweight titleholder moved up to heavyweight in 2012.

His latest appearance, a draw with Antonio Tarver, was the third time Cunningham felt he’d been wronged on the scorecards — there also was a highly controversial loss to Tomasz Adamek in late 2012 and a debatable decision dropped to Vyacheslav Glazkov earlier this year.

I would like to see Steve go back down to Cruiser...he won't be at such a size disadvantage....the top dudes at HW are coming in the ring at 220 plus....but I understand the warrior mentality about loving challenges....PERSONALLY, I would like to see him go back down and try to clean up house and maybe make it to the HOF as one of the best Cruisers ever...if it's not too late

He might as well stay at HW at this point but if he can make more money at CW then why not? He has done ok at HW but he is not big enough to really hurt anyone. He just doesn't do enough in his fights to get a decision...

He'd get put to sleep if he goes back to cruiserweight.

He should strongly consider moving back down. One of the reasons he left the division was because there was no money and he was forced to fight in Germany or Poland.

Now there seems to be more interest stateside with Haymon and PBC. Huck has come over, Glowacki became the champ, you still have names like Shumenov and Flores floating around. These are all very winnable fights for Cunningham.

He'll be much more competitive at CW as opposed to HW where he realistically has no chance against anyone in the top 5.

I think its to late to win any meaningfull fight anymore. He would lose to the Top heavies as well as to the top cruisers. Hes 39 years old. But im sure he can still beat Huck. If he fights someone like Lebedev, Chakhiev or Makabu though he gets knocked out.
