Comments Thread For: Cotto-Canelo: Supply/Demand Hurt Fans in Search of Tix

Whether it was the Monday morning pre-sale or the Tuesday general release of tickets, much of the public found it very difficult to purchase the tickets they wanted for the November 21st match-up at the Mandalay Bay between Miguel Cotto and Saul Alvarez. With a fight that is so highly anticipated and a capacity of approximately just 12,000 inside the Mandalay Bay Events Center, this was bound to happen.

Forget the fights Oscar had there! It's 2015! Why on earth would any promoter in their right mind put this fight at a venue that can only hold 12,000 people!?!? This is Mexico vs Puerto Rico 50-70k people would have showed up minimum!!

The same reason Mayweather exclusively fights in small arenas in Vegas and not in huge Football arenas in other states. The casinos and Vegas bring in the money and the high rollers. Vegas like it or not is the Boxing capital for mega fights.

Rumors are the PPV price will be $69.95 for SD, and $79.95 for HD... They better stack that card because thats still alot of money to fork over.

Lets not forget that Roc Nation is the lead promoter on this event. Canelo would have loved to have this fight in Cowboys stadium, but there was NO WAY Cotto was gonna let that happen, and NO WAY Canelo was gonna fight in NYC.

Honestly I don't blame either of them. Vegas is the most neutral when it comes to those other venues.

Now Pac vs May could have done Cowboys stadium because neither side would have had an advantage but we all know Maywether will never fight out of the hometown advantage of Vegas

He's right. The city makes a killing. Think about, what's the night life like in Arlington compared to the Vegas strip after these events? If there was a state of the art football stadium Vegas would do a killing in all major sports.

Vegas is actually neutral both sides here and May and pac. Since 2000 both have fought in Vegas 17 times a piece. It was only fitting. While I agree a bigger venue would have been better, May and pac was about money and Vegas was gonna generate the most money for the entire weekend. Way more than Arlington. Think about it, as a fan/celebrity what are you gonna do Arlington that the Vegas strip couldn't top ?
