Comments Thread For: Cunningham: Antonio Tarver Should Be Embarrassed!

Steve Cunningham was held to a draw in his fight with Antonio Tarver, the former light heavyweight champion who is now 46 years old and does not aesthetically resemble a finely conditioned athlete.

Cunningham not only feels as if he won the fight, but that it is Tarver who should take shame with the result.

“I’ve looked at the fight. There’s always woulda coulda shouldas. That’s hindsight. From my part of the performance I feel good. From his part, I feel he should be embarrassed or disgraced,” Cunningham told BoxingScene.com a few days after the Tarver bout. “He literally looked like a clever journeyman. That’s what he looked like to us. He looked like a guy who didn’t want to engage, who didn’t come to engage. He came to throw a few punches around, make it look like he was doing something.”

I have not watched the fight, and most likely won't. With that said from the swelling on Cunningham's face it looked as if someone was engaging and connecting that night.

Tarver did good for his age....Steve is the one who should be feeling some type of way....I expected more from my guy....he wasn't crispy or sharp at all...Tarver was Tarver!!...Steve had the right opponent to shine against and he didn't....not saying he didn't deserve to win, he just wasn't convincing enough imo

Tarver is full of it. I agree with Cunningham.

Tarver landed the cleaner, more effective punches, while Cunningham just landed pitty-pat arm punches.

Cunningham is the worst crybaby in the sport of boxing.

Cunningham lost on my card. He has no power & he doesn't have great defence. Tarver landed the bigger blows & this is always been the case with him. Never puts the pedal to the metal. I had him losing to tarver, glazkov & adamek in close fights. 4 of his taps are nullified by his opponents clean & hard shots...

Cunningham can't open up because his china chin can't take it....get out of boxing already...tarver was in sh/it condition and still landed all the telling punches...put them both in with povetkin so he can retire them.

Steve is the one who should be embarrassed for performing like that against an old man and former light-heavy. Steve seems like a good man, but I'm getting tired of his whining after every close fight now as well (Tarver, Adamek, Glazkov). Didn't he even whine after getting KO'd by Fury? I know he feels Fury used an illegal tactic to deliver the final blow, but the man was getting beaten down and hurt at that point in the fight anyway. Not to mention he got the benefit of the doubt against Mansour with that slow count so he had some luck there. He always plays the victim.

Looks like Cunningham could use some of these

As far as I'm concerned, Tarver landed the cleaner, harder punches on a consistent basis and won the fight. Based on their ages, if anyone should be ashamed, it should be Cunningham. (even though I don't think either of them did themselves a disservice)
