Now do you see why he was so viciously defending Haymon when word of Oscar and TR were suing him? I dont blame him, business is business, but I know he wasnt sticking up for him out of good will.

Yea I'm not disagreeing with that or not understanding why lesser or no name guys need promoters. I'm saying guys like Canelo & Pacquiao for the easiest examples to bring up. Canelo doesn't need GBP, Pacquiao doesn't need TR. They're name guys who are gonna draw a crowd for the foreseeable future. They would both make more money by auctioning themselves off basically for each fight I feel. An that'd probably give them a wider opponent selection if they could flip over to any promoters roster for a fight.

No they fight under the PBC promotions banner. Haymon will use a pseudo promo company like a warriors boxing or mayweather promotions to promote the gig(which they do nothing to promote it) so Haymon wont violate the Ali Act but don't get it twisted the guys he has all fight under the PBC promotions banner.

I agree in theory that guys at that level dont need a promoter. So whether its out of loyalty, or wanting some sort of security (contract minimums for # of fights and purses), who knows.....

It's no secret that Manny gets a lot of money advanced to him up front by Top Rank. He's obviously comfortable with the arrangement. Most fighters don't want to be bothered with details. They just want things arranged for them so they can prepare accordingly. Very, very few fighters are actually good businessmen as well as talented boxers.
