Why have people accepted this bent notion that he's "earned the right"?

It's a swan song. Simple as that.

After a 19 year ATG career he's beat everyone he's "scared" of, he's won all the titles, he's broken all the records. He's having a final farewell fight against an easy opponent and the off in the sunset.

Floyd's biggest detractors seem to have major issue with that. I wonder why.
And he deserves to go out the way he wants to. Nothing wrong with that s B-Hop said. There are still better opponents out there though, and the time to fight Berto was earlier in his career before he took losses like the one to Guerrero, but I have always liked Berto, and while he may not deserve this payday from a resume standpoint, I am glad he gets the shot at Floyd I had been waiting for since before he fought Ortiz. That being said, let's not forget he ducked DLH rematch and Margarito, so we can't say he's beat everyone he's "scared of". I am also known to be one of Floyd's biggest fans on here, before you are anyone trys to pull the "hate" card on me. I have always prided myself in being objective about all fighters minus DLH.

ali called himself the greatest and fought his fair share of opponents that had no chance as well in his older year. but let me guess thats somehow different

Because he's undefeated since the 1996 Olympics. He's beaten De La Hoya @ 154, Mosely @ 147, Cotto @ 154, Canelo @ 152, and Pacquiao @ 147. He's 38 and still the most wanted man in boxing. What other ATG has been as relevant as Floyd at age 38? B-Hop is respectful because respect is due!

And....? I don't see how that "gives him the right" to fight Andre bloody Berto.

It's a ***ing horrendous fight and there's no two ways about it.

Great post, and I wanna piggyback ride on your statement. When Ali was 38, he lost to Larry Holmes, and then his final fight at 39, he lost to Trevor Berbick. Does anyone with a brain, judge Ali's career off of those last 2 fights (losses)?

It is a "horrendous pick!" No doubt about it! But if we can excuse Pacquiao and Khan for fighting Algeri, and we can forgive Thurman for fighting Collazo, and we can forgive Brook for fighting Jo Jo Dan and Gavin, certainly we can forgive a 38 yr. old man, who is undefeated for 19 years, for fighting Berto.

My only gripe with this fight is that it's on PPV. It's an insult to the fans that they're putting a big price tag on this fight when it's universally recognized as an easy touch. Nothing wrong with Floyd finishing his amazing career with an easy win, but this fight does not belong on PPV.

I agree and then the fans should show strength...BY NOT BUYING IT!!! I won't.
