  • Comments Thread For: Porter Eyes Danny Garcia, No Response on Keith Thurman

After winning 'the Battle of Ohio' against Adrien Broner on June 20th, Shawn Porter is still awaiting word on his next fight. His father/trainer Kenny Porter was hoping that they would get a crack at Danny Garcia, who stopped Paulie Malignaggi in nine rounds on August 1st.

"Danny Garcia did a video the week before the Paulie fight, basically saying that he's a better fighter than Shawn, he'd beat Shawn, and he would counter-punch Shawn and that was a tailor-made fight for him. So I took that as confidence that said he would take the fight," said Porter, who also manages his son.

Porter-Garcia would be a good scrap. Not sure how Porter's style meshes with Garcia's but I think Porter should be able to wear Garcia down and win most of the exchanges. Not so sure Porter would get the decision if the fight goes to the cards though.

CAN WE JUST GET THESE ****ING GUYS IN THE RING WITH EACH OTHER?????

Not a year from now, not two years from now, not after they've lost to other fighters and it doesn't mean anything, do it now. Everyone's available, make the fights.

Still no response from Thurman about Porter. Anybody heard him make any comments about Team Porter's recent desire to make the fight this year?

Thurman is definitely open to fighting Porter, he's been asking for that fight for a good 2 years.

Exactly. In the current boxing landscape most great fights don't get made because of politics - Kov-Stevenson - but there is no reason for these fights not to take place.

It just seems as if Haymon wants to build them up ever so ever so slowly after a string of meaningless victories and then build them up as a mega event. I'm wondering who will be the first PBC fighter to break away citing lack of interesting fights. Thurman made noises before and after last fight - maybe him down the road.

Anyway a Thurman - Porter fight is great on paper and I'm totally ok with Garcia against either one of them.

Porter a throwback. Ready to fight anybody, anytime, anywhere. Porter is dangerous to these guys because he's always in shape and you can't catch him slippin. He made that CW against Broner with no problem. Garcia out partying and clubbing. Thurman in Florida doing whatever the hell his weird ass does. Porter's in the gym working on his craft. Porter should go back up to SWW or MW because these guys at WW don't wanna see him.
