  • Comments Thread For: Vargas: Tough For Canelo-Cotto To Beat Me and Trinidad

Former champion Fernando 'El Feroz' Vargas, who in 2001 fought Félix 'Tito' Trinidad in one of the most exciting bouts in the Mexico vs. Puerto Rico rivalry, is really looking forward to the showdown between WBC middleweight champion Miguel Angel Cotto and young challenger Saúl 'Canelo' Álvarez.

Vargas' bout with Trinidad took place at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, which is the same location for Cotto-Canelo on November 21st.

      - Vargas beat Ike Quartey, Campas and got the W againts Winky, this was all before he faced Tito. Ike and Winky destroy anyone in Canelos resume with the exception of his loss againts PBF.

Although Cotto Vs Canelo is a great fight but nothing the close to Tito Vs Vargas due to the diferent boxing styles being in play between Canelo vs Cotto. No doubt the fight will generate great number of both Mexican and Puertorican fans coming to support their fighter. Moreover, this fight will be better than Floyd vs Pac fight and it could easily become the fight of the year. Enough said! May the best fighter win the bout!

Neither Cotto or Canelo beat Tito.. that's for sure... but Vargas is a different story.. it depends... is it pre-tito Vargas or Post-Tito Vargas?... if it's pre tito then Vargas gives them both a good scrap and could go either way.. if its post-tito then Vargs loses to both Cotto and Canelo..

*** Tito took his Varga's soul*** such a shame too.. he was thrown into the wolves to early...

I think a pre Tito Vargas beats both Cotto and Canelo, and agreed Tito beats both of them as well, 147 or 154. Vargas peaked early. He was young when he fought Tito but like i stated earlier he had already beat Quartey,Campas and Winky. He had big names on his resume. This is not taking away anything from Cotto, I think Cotto is the better overall boxer out of Canelo,Tito and Vargas, but styles make fights.

Trinidad vs. Vargas is the best Junior Middleweight fight I've ever seen.

I really think Cotto would have destroyed Vargas. I just think stylistically Vargas would never be able to get away from Cotto's left hook or jab. Obviously Vargas would land some good punches on Cotto and have rounds where he outboxed him also, but once Cotto starts landing his left hook it won't be long.

Even in Vargas' most impressive fight against Quartey he was getting caught by left hooks early. Once he started walking Quartey down and smothering his punches he faired much better. Vargas is a sucker for a left hook. He always was. He would get caught over and over by Miguel.

Canelo fight would be close to the same. I do think both Cotto and Canelo would have a much harder time against guys like Wink and Quartey than Vargas. Ad Tito is just a nightmare matchup for Cotto and Canelo
