Comments Thread For: Thurman: Berto Was Always One Away From Mayweather

WBA 'regular' welterweight champion Keith Thurman has a lot of respect for Andre Berto, who previously held the WBC and IBF crowns at 147-pounds. The two fighters are both from the Florida area and represented by manager/adviser Al Haymon.

On September 12th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Berto will challenge WBC/WBA welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. in the headline fight of a Showtime Pay-Per-View event.

He still obviously can't tell the difference from San Diego and San Antonio.

Thurman knows floyd is avoiding a prime or peak fighter.

Al already got to him . Just like lara and just like paul williams and just like vernon forrest. They all called floyds name. And floyd had Al have a talk and steer them the other way

Vernon was gunning for a Mayweather fight? Never knew that! He'd have gave Mayweather fits.

in actuality he never was..its was just that floyd became the money man after beating oscar and everyone wanted the grand stage..not just prime black fighters..fact is vernon lost 2 unification bouts with mayorga and outgrew 147 moved to 154 before floyd even got to 140 vs corley

everyone from 154 to 160 even some 168lbers were willing to drop to 147 and 154 to take on floyd...but the fact is none of those clowns never proved they could make the weight and floyd went on to beat top men in his stacked division time and time again

if u look at vernon at 154 and look at his rehydration weights there is no way in hell he would hav made 147..

floyd went to 154 all the way from 130..147 he was willing to fight anyone..he's made it clear 154 only for the money!....vernon was not the money and decided not to prove he can campaign at 147 anymore

hard to call a man a ducker when he fough higher ranked guys or guysw that were still alive, no disrespect.

since this guy and khan keep crying over mayweather. they should fight each other and then maybe they'll get their dream fight. until then they should take their thumbs out of their mouths and do somethin worth life.

Thurman ain't so bad. He's pretty much saying its a fight he's craving as long as Floyd's in the game. I hear him and Porter are supposed to lace up so that will definitely earn the winner the right to the fight if Floyd doesn't retire.

Khan on the other hand is pitiful, pathetic and down right embarrassing. He should be ashamed of himself for the ridicule he allows himself to endure for one fight.

While Thurman does have a point, those 1 fight away days ended with Soto-Karass.
