Canadian PPV was going to deliver the bulk of the event money, but there's value to the US broadcast rights that gets ignored here, often willfully. Kovalev and Pascal fought for $6m, with likely $5m coming from Canadian revenues (gate, PPV).

If Showtime is willing to pay twice what HBO is ready to pay for the US broadcast rights to Stevenson-Kovalev, why does the fight have to be on Showtime, since both broadcasters can put fights on PPV in Canada?

Stevenson-Karpency, depending on how the Canadian PPV sales go, will likely splitting $4m-$5m for the fight, thanks to the Canadian money.

Well that's how it has always been. It can't be any simpler than that, You don't call for a purse bid then pull out because you think you are going to lose. That was just plain shoddy.

well if it goes to purse bids again (although i somehow suspect that michel will be more reluctant to press the issue now) the russians will probably outbid haymon

I think HBO paid Kathy and Kov so the Stevenson fight wouldn't happen or if it did, only on HBO. Duva and Kov took it. Is what it is. Showtime did the same with Stevenson the year before.

I remember his post fight comments after the Bellew fight (just before he signed with Haymon), Stevenson said he wanted bigger fights like "Carl Frotch or Bernard Hopkin".
That was almost two years ago and since then he hasn't even fought a Pascal level opponent.
