Hasn't anyone else noticed the glaring error in this article? Duva never asked for the purse bid, why would she ask for something she didn't want and knew she could not win?

As wee all know the unprecedented thing that happened was that the WBC made Kovalev Stevenson's mandatory at Duva's request. Unusual because as we also know Kovalev held other belts. GYM then asked the WBC for an immediate purse bid without the normal period of negotiations between the two parties involved.

The WBC granted the request and Duva backed out of the purse bid. I actually don't blame Duva. Why deal with someone that will not at least negotiate? And why didn't GYM negotiate with Main Events? They can't be that difficult to deal with after all they easily got the fights done with Bhop and Pascal.

As far as all the ducking crap. This is the way I see it. Kovalev has fought three Ring top ten fighters in a row and who has Stevenson fought?? And who has also garnered a deserved reputation of putting on a multitude of mismatches?? Do I really need to say who it is? As the old saying goes,"the proof is in the pudding!"

Duva went asking the WBC to force the matchup, thinking Stevenson-Haymon-Michel wouldn't have the choice but to vacate the WBC title. She thought that Stevenson would have replicated the Quillin move. Wow, this lawyer is really unskillful to think that simple.
And to her great surprise, she realize that Stevenson wanted that fight all along. Asking herself, how the F Adonis team are so confident, I have a bad feeling about this one, it's time to throw our bluff card on the map, like I did with the phony lawsuit I was about to lose anyway.

If the purse worth the fight, it could be on HBO, Showtime or PBC, it doesn't matter because the shares would still be at 50% each opponents according the WBC. So, I don't know who Kovalev is clowning other than himself with his:
«50% split on HBO, it's more than fair»,
which clearly prove how he endorse the withdrawal decision taken by Kathy Duva.
Kovalev wants no part of Stevenson, they only wish Stevenson loses his title down the road, and they'll run to pick that WBC Belt by saying:
«anyway stevenson wasn't a real champion», and other ish.

Kovalev is ducking, and some of you can't admit the facts right before you.

HBO isn't career best money for Stevenson.

Which is the issue here.

To air the fight on PPV in Canada, Stevenson-Kovalev would've had to be on, from the Haymon-affiliated channels, on Showtime or SpikeTV[PBC] (NBCSN would also work, but the reach of the channel and the scale of the fight are mismatched; ESPN/NBC/CBS/etc all have regular TV partners in Canada).

The PBC shows so far, generally speaking, have allocated ~$2m in payouts to their SpikeTV cards, and Showtime has proven themselves willing to put $3m in payouts behind airing Wilder's fights. Not sure how much higher Haymon is willing to go for a SpikeTV PBC broadcast, but I don't doubt Showtime being willing to go to $3m for Stevenson-Kovalev, maybe even $3.5m at the uttermost (depending on how seriously they value the fight).

I don't think that HBO values a Stevenson-Kovalev fight at even $2m, let alone the cost of likely securing the US broadcast rights to the fight on the open market.

keep ignoring the reality of the situation if you want; HBO isn't the only platform interested in airing fights, and HBO is no longer the only platform with the budget to pay out for the big showdowns.

It's bull**** from the beginning, same old. It's Ppv in Canada whether SHO or HBO. That's where most of the money comes from, and the gate. That's why Kovalev and Pascal fought for 6m. Too bad Stevenson is not taking advantage and instead fighting bums for way less risk and money

Michel knew that Stevenson's relationship with Showtime and Kovalev's relationship with HBO would make the negotiations fruitless, so he went to the WBC to cut the kabuki theater of "negotiations"; WBC kind of saw how things would be playing out, in addition to Kovalev ending his formal HBO deal with the Pascal fight, so they agreed with Michel.

Duva thought that Stevenson would simply tuck tail, and when he didn't, she **** a brick.

Kovalev just fought Mohammedi, will fight a bum in November in Russia, will likely vacate the IBF belt when Beterbiev becomes mandatory, and then hope that the boxing audience is up for watching fight a guy he already knocked out again, or that Andre Ward gives up on the Golovkin fight and any other 168 fights.

Stevenson will keep plugging along, fighting whomever he wants as Kovalev holds the WBC mandatory position hostage, with a Fonfara rematch and Montreal fights with Beterbiev/Alvarez in the cue when those make sense.

They value him so much his next fight is on Spike TV lol. Don't blame them, his first SHO fight did weak ratings, 50% lower than previous, and his last SHO bout did laughable ratings, FNF numbers

lol. Stevenson fought Bika on CBS/Showtime, with this upcoming fight being his first bout outside of the Showtime/CBS orbit since the move over.

To try and sell a single bout off of Showtime/CBS as a loss of value in Stevenson is laughable. Would love to see how you try and spin things when HBO takes a pass on airing his Russia farce (Moscow is 7 hours ahead of the east coast/10 hours ahead of the west coast, basically lining things up for Boxing After Dark, lol).

When PBC got launch, Stevenson adjusted his contract with Showtime to have the freedom to present himself on any other networks, like most Haymon boxers. A purse bid would have offered a minimum of 10 millions EASY for each boxers, instead of a low purse of 3.5 million each offered by HBO.
Just admit Kovalev is the one hiding under a contract, for less. You see, all boxers fights for money, if you're not this kind of boxer, you're dumb.
But I doubt team Kovalev are that dumb.
So if they aren't ******, why would they lock themselves with a network contract for less. Humm! It would be for a better long term & secured salary, means less risk to be match against higher level opponents & more lower risk matchups, 4 fights per year.
Remember; To secure all his Belts, Kovalev choose to not fight Stevenson, not Stevenson.

So now, if this fight ever happens, who will win?

Canadian PPV was going to deliver the bulk of the event money, but there's value to the US broadcast rights that gets ignored here, often willfully. Kovalev and Pascal fought for $6m, with likely $5m coming from Canadian revenues (gate, PPV).

If Showtime is willing to pay twice what HBO is ready to pay for the US broadcast rights to Stevenson-Kovalev, why does the fight have to be on Showtime, since both broadcasters can put fights on PPV in Canada?

Stevenson-Karpency, depending on how the Canadian PPV sales go, will likely splitting $4m-$5m for the fight, thanks to the Canadian money.
