Going up a division to face a guy like Froch, on his home turf is a bigger ask than facing him at your own weight in your home country. Froch was also p4p rated most places, unlike when he fought Ward, and easily #1 active SMW. I don't think Froch had declined enough to offset all that. What, his lighting reflexes had gone?

I dunno if he would have destroyed Groves much better. He was always face first and Groves is faster and punches hard. But would have gotten knocked out in 1, and got destroyed in 2.

froch was dropped and down on the cards vs Taylor in round 12, didn't look great vs Dirrell or ancient Glen Johnson who'd just come down in weight. Ward was a big favorite, bigger than GGG would have been. And again, Ward didn't have to make a weight or hometown concession.
