Comments Thread For: Bernard Hopkins on The Cotto vs. Canelo Purse Rumors

New York - A partner in Golden Boy promotions and still active fighter, Bernard Hopkins, was on hand to announce the fight between his IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux (34-2, 31 KO’s) and WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (33-0, 30 KO’s.

The fight will be a pay-per-view fight priced at 49.95 (59.95 on HD). Hopkins feels this fight along with the November 21st fight between WBC middleweight Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33 KO’s) and Canelo Alvarez (45-1-1, 32 KO’s) are both worth the price of admission.

“You have a chemistry of guys coming to fight,” Hopkins told BoxingScene.com. “Nobody

I can see Cotto getting the slightly bigger share of the purse. But the real winners are the fans. This fight will definitely guarantee excitement based on their styles. Can't wait!!

It's probably closer than that in terms of purse split, but Roc Nation is pitching in extra for Cotto. It's like Lemieux NDam total purse was 100k, and Lemieux made 1m+ (and NDam made more than 100k)

Yea my understanding is that rocnation is giving Cotto a big amount, on their own. It's not so much about who won negotiations.

when Amir Khan makes this kind of money and his fights are on PPV he can start waffling. At the moment he hasn't headlined a PPV and hasn't made thus much money yet he is talking like he is somebody saying Mayweather ran away from? Is he ******ed?

Cotto is already guaranteed about 12 million for any fight, when you factor that in with the purse split it makes sense that Cotto would make about 30 mil and Canelo make 10, why? Because that was the reported offer during the previous negotiations. If you remember Cotto and Canelo were both offered about 10 mil and Cotto was not happy with that. I really Cant see GBP paying Canelo that much more than 10 especially when you consider how much he made against Mayweather. A guarantee of 5 mil, with PPV he made close to 12 mil I believe.

Cotto's final fight, unless he gets the GGG/Lemieux loser, so yeah I guess the old dude needs to get a serious pile of cash. Good for Cotto and Canelo. Great fight for the fans, while it lasts.
