Comments Thread For: Egginton-Gavin Set For 10/17; Macklin To Fight at 154

As previously reported on BoxingScene.com, Sam Eggington (16-2, 9 KOs) will defend his British, Commonwealth and WBC Silver welterweight titles against former British and Commonwealth title-holder Frank Gavin (22-2, 13 early) in a local derby.

The news was confirmed during a press conference Tuesday morning in Birmingham, with the city's Barclaycard Arena hosting the bill on October 17th. Also revealed was the addition of former middleweight contender Matthew Macklin, who will now campaign in the super welterweight division. [Click Here To Read More]

I like Eggington. He's a kid with a lot of desire who's developing quite nicely but there's a danger he'll get asked too much too soon. Eggington has the kind of dedication that Gavin has always lacked but if Frankie preps properly for this he should have too much nous and be too slippery for his Brummie rival at this stage of the youngster's career. Will be good to watch, though.

Eggington, what a rad name. Good luck to The Knife, he had no chance of winning a title at 160, there are more options at 154, he could be competitive.
