Comments Thread For: Golovkin's Coach: Canelo is Bigger For Us Than Cotto

Abel Sanchez, trainer of WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin, views Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez is a bigger fight for his boxer than a showdown with Miguel Cotto.

Cotto will defend his WBC middleweight title against Canelo on November 21 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. Golovkin will face IBF champion in a unification on October 17th at New York's Madison Square Garden. Both events are being carried by HBO Pay-Per-View.

They're both clowns and cowards so who gives a ****. I don't care who wins or losses, I want Gennady to fight BOTH and beat them to an inch of their life. Hate both with a passion.

At this point in their careers I do think Canelo is a bigger fight. Even if Canelo had 3 losses in his career right now, he still has years to rebuild and become a champion.

Where as KOing Cotto would just be beating a past his prime champion, although Cotto is likely a HOF candidate, he's old and too small for Golovkin. He just has the Lineal title that GGG wants.

ggg's already a bigger draw than cotto who could only muster 12k at the garden and ggg will probably double that. ggg will have to overpay cotto if cotto wins and pretend he's the a-side when he's really not because it takes a lot to get that coward in the ring.

this whole "past his prime" talk is ridiculous.. how do you go about determining if a fighter is "past his prime"? cotto is on a 3 fight win streak on an elite level, arguably didnt lose a round in any of them, so how do you figure hes past it.

Its not hating on him, he was physically better before and is in his third weight class now.

He's still a good fighter with some of the better fundamentals of most active fighters which is why he's able to still fight at this level.

martinez had no knees and geale was a drained zombie. delvin rodriguez was legit but then again its delvin rodriguez a non-contender. i wouldn't call that the elite level.

Good post. Canelo would be a lot better to do business with, and is the younger fresher guy with more career left in him than Cotto. Cotto will be a diva and may just avoid the fight with GGG altogether if he wins against Canelo.
