  • Comments Thread For: Eleider Alvarez Overcomes Tough Spots, Beats Prieto

Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada - In a battle of undefeated light heavyweight contenders, highly rated Eleider "Storm" Alvarez (18-0 10 KOs) withstood some shaky moments to win a twelve round unanimous decision over Isidro Ranoni "El Guerrero" Prieto (24-1-3, 20 KOs). The scores were 117-111 across the board.

Alvarez controlled most of the first round with his speed, but he was buzzed in the final ten seconds from a big overhand right. Alvarez still dominated much of the action, but he was still getting tagged with that overhand right on occasion and the punch was doing damage.

Impressed that Alvarez recovered after that sixth. Thought it was going to be another Huck upset.

I guess a competitive mismatch is better then your average run of the mill mismatch. And if this was the new version of Alvarez the old version must of really really ******.

this should have been alvarez vs fonfara or alvarez vs beterbiev or alvarez vs stevenson but i guess those fights were just too hard to make. politics and all...haymon and haymon just can't work together

Alvarez vs. Beterbiev won't happen. They have the same trainer, as does Pascal.

Alvarez vs. Stevenson likely. Alvarez is highly ranked and has WBC silver belt.

Fonfara has Cleverly in October and then Chilemba eliminator to fight Stevenson

alvarez-stevenson should have happened now but instead both are fighting unknowns pbc style

ok but why is fonfara fighting cleverly? that's my whole point. that's a waste of time. alvarez and fonfara are both top 10 guys. why would fonfara need an eliminator to fight stevenson when they are both with pbc? wasnt the whole point of the pbc to get the best fighers to fight each other and go around the other boxing bullsh-it?

I think the strategy is to build up the fighters to the viewer. The average boxing fan wouldnt know Alvarez if he was walking down the street. Stevenson fought and beat him now, it would be know different than beating Karpency. They have no idea who some of these guys are. Alvarez has barely been featured on U.S. tv.

they might as well build karpency up then right? i mean he's american so it would make more sense. give him a couple easy fights and look he's a threat to stevenson tune in to see if he can win the title!
