I remember watching Tyson vs Lewis, Foreman being Foreman was talking without thinking, saying how it is pointless to tie up Tyson... Merchant comes from no where, saying "are you serious George, Holyfield tied up Tyson for the damn near the whole fight and frustrated him. Lewis would be ****** to not take that from Holyfields book." (Not an exact quote)....

Boxing has always had, and always will have clinching. If you don't know it, you haven't watched boxing for long, or your hatred for an individual is making you ignorant to the facts. Clinching has been in boxing since their were no championship rounds and it has moved through the sport since then.

Yeah, I think sometimes it's unavoidable for some fighters due to their clashing styles. My problem is over doing it or doing it by design, like Ward and wlad does.

James Toney is the first one that comes to my mind, the other as someone already said, is Juan Manuel Marquez.

As for master boxers, guys that throw fluid combos, use legal defensive skills , and hardly ever clinch will have to be Marquez, Manny, GGG, Rigo, Lomachenko, and Kovelev
Floyd and Hopkins exploited the loop hole of clinching to the heal. Real master boxers uses arms, fist and movement to create legit defense. Clinching is for pussays.

bribing refs either blatantly or through systematic implied pressure isn't really a loop hole. more like corruption. henry akwindade was dq'd for clinching but he was the b-side. floyd and wlad are the a-sides so the refs keep letting them do it. the more they let them the more fights they will get.

kenny bayless completely f-ucked up in the maidana-2 fight but ta-da! he was right there for floyd-pac what a shocker. floyd struggled in the first maidana fight so he made sure there was someone in there that he could trust for the 2nd fight where he used a strategy that relied heavily on cheating, then he was scared to fight pac so he needed a guy that he knew would let him cheat and who better to trust then kenny?

meanwhile the guy that took a point away from wlad(although 10 rounds too late) will never do another wlad fight and might never do another big fight ever. that's just the way it works. it's a self selecting system. let them cheat=more assignements/more spotlight. don't let them cheat=have fun reffing 4 rounders in a high school gym. if you haven't noticed most refs like to be in the spotlight and shout ****** catch phrases instead of doing their jobs.

Clinching when boxers get tangled is fine. Clinching to take a breather is fine. Clinching to block an exchange is cowardly and is technically a foul in boxing. (Queens burry Rules)

Those boxers who clinch to stop an exchange from happening I don't have any respect. For lack of a better word. That's coward tactics.

The thing about boxing referees is it's calls are subjective and opinionated. It's based on there personal interpretation, hence it can never be precise as a soccer player stepping on a line and calling it out. Or a 3 pointer stepping on a line calling it a 2 pointer. A baller fouling intentionally and getting free throws. Whats fuvked up in boxing it's subjective. It's based on how referees and judges of that given fight interprets it. Plus the bribing that happens behind the scenes equals.. Bad boxing + Corruption.
