Hunter is a good trainer for guys who can use their physical advantages to spoil a fight. Mares is a bit too small for that plus he likes to fight on the front foot. Maximise those things.
Actually i think Hunter made Khan a better all around fighter. With a chin like Khans, D first is key, its on Khan now to be smarter and transition from O to D and vice versa, Hunter can only teach Khan, its on Khan to do it in a fight, good/great fighters adapt adjust & overcome, khan just isnt that good, hes athletically gifted thats it. As for Mares, he needed a few more fights under hunter to see the difference but really Mares really didnt need to leave his trainer so hunter could teach him defense. Mares loss to Gonzalez was just a case of him being to small & gonzalez being to big not to mention Nacho knew Mares like the back of his hand & Gonzalez has a high ko percentage in 4rds or less. Bottom line is muscle memory is hard for adults to break, taking on a new trainer is like restarting your career.
