The long awaited announcement was finally made this Thursday afternoon that the showdown between WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto and matinee idol, Saul Alvarez, was consummated for November 21st at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, which will be distributed by HBO Pay-Per-View.

"I think it's a great match-up, Mexico versus Puerto Rico, it's a great rivalry," said Cotto's trainer, Freddie Roach at the Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood, California.

We all agree a victory over Canelo would be the biggest win of Cotto's career right?

Who has canelo beat that would make this a big victory? His Mosley win is bigger.

Mosley was still very good at the time so it's difficult to say.

I see Cotto moving a lot. But he will get caught. If he goes the Kirkland rout, he's toast.

as long as cotto boxes he wins easy.. but if he fades, canelo will corner him and let off mean combos, possibly stopping him. but im going with cotto on points.

Id say it is, given cotto is 10 years older, and suffered 2 brutal tko losses, to come back and beat a younger hungry hard hitting u and comer. I def think it would be his best win if he can beat canelo.

Biggest win to fickle boxing fans? Biggest win in terms of profile? Yes, of course. But when you consider Cottos entire career, recognize that he had many major fights, always fighting the top fighters in the division, which were fights that he was supposed to lose. The atmosphere and events were crazy, and although the fights were entertaining Cotto annihilated those opponents, as a result revisionist history takes over. He was supposed to be knocked out, he was supposed to be out pointed, he was supposed to lack the skill, he was supposed to be ovewhelmed with speed, and all of that was before he faced Pac. His biggest victory in terms of opponent, Mosley. Career defining victory, Sergio Martinez, because of the history. If Cotto defeats Canelo its his highest profile victory.

At this point it feels as if the majority of boxers pass through the Wild Card Gym
