Good boxing books?

I know Joe Frazier has a book out, part of it was printed in Ring magazing a month or so back.

do you guys think that you can honestly get boxing skills from a book I don't really think so you have to go to the gym and train with a coach that knows what he is doing.

It can be a good supplement to your training though, and perhaps you'll learn a few things you can try out in the gym and see if you like them.

It's never a bad idea to get as much information as you can whether in the gym or in a book.
I know of a number of boxing books you should be able to find a lot useful information. First and foremost, a book which not only has good tips but also good historical boxing examples of those tips being applied is Championship Streetfighting by Ned Beaumont. The main flaw is it has no actual pictures.
The Joe Frazier book Box Like The Pros is an excellent primer, has pictures and has a good section on floorwork. I pick it up from time to time and refer to things. The Straight Lead by Teri Tom is more about Jeet Kune Do, but gives good info on the physics of punching power and refers frequently to Jack Dempsey's (unfortunately) out of print book on boxing techniques.
I would also check out How To Be An Ass Whipping Boxer by Champ Thomas and Boxing Mastery by Mark Hatmaker (which has plenty of photos). There's another one, Boxing:The American Martial Art by R Michael Onello that can give you some sample drills and training routines.

The Joe Frazier book is my favorite training book.

Plus it's pretty cheap.

They really need to do a reprint on Dempsey's "Championship Fighting" because I've read passages from the book and it's amazing.

I wish Paladin Press or one of those combat book publishing companies would seriously think about putting the Dempsey book back in print. There's a website, http://stickgrappler.tripod.com/, where the guy transcribed part of the Dempsey book. Too bad he didn't finish the project from when I last checked.
