Comments Thread For: WBC To Addess Mayweather 147/154 Titles After Berto

BoxingScene.com caught up with WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman on Saturday evening at the third annual Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame induction ceremony where we went over a variety of topics pertinent to the WBC's champions.

One of the topics discussed was the status of the 147 and 154 pound titles that are currently held by Floyd Mayweather who faces Andre Berto on September 12th. Mayweather will defend his 147 WBC and WBA belts at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Mayweather hasn't defended his 154 pound title since he defeated Canelo Alvarez in 2013.
Wrong. He defended it against Maidana, even though it was a 147 bout.

I have little respect for the ABC organisations.

Their inability to be consistant, and unwillingness to recognise other champions, makes it impossible to take them seriously.

But this is obviously the right decision.

      1) It was crucial that everything that could possibly be viewed as an impediment be removed from in/around the Pacquiao negotiations

Bob Arum is fantastic at lying and making excuses, he did not need anymore ammunition.

      2) Mayweather is clearly the best JMW on the planet

      3) He is about to retire

        Well spotted !

But it shouldnt really be counted

Canelo was the last JMW he fought.

He really shouldnt have any titles at 154 anymore. What's the point?? He's not defending them.

If it was anybody else he would gotten stripped.

He is the cash cow of the sport so the WBC is in no rush of stripping him. A really trustworthy organization that is fair and impartial

Why wait? Mayweather isn't going to fight at 154 again. Do it now so someone else can win that belt.
