Example, this fight with AB is a top 10 jr welterweight fighting a fringe jr welterweight. Just because they put "title fight" on the fight poster doesn't make me view it any differently.
Another example, GGG-Lemieux. Its IMO the best middleweight in the world and a supposed elite fighting a guy that's been KO'd and beaten by C level competition. Just because they put "unification fight" on the fight poster doesn't make me view the fight any differently.
Amen to that !
I agree 100% man.
It would not surprise me at all if casual fans looked at your post and did not understand a single thing you wrote.
And that, is where most of the confusion/arguments come from on this board...... some people (experienced) just have a deeper level of insight.
The belt situation has been like that for decades.
Casual fans haven't clicked yet.
And then they throw in lineal, just to fcuk each other right up and really confuse things lol.
Remove belts, remove lineal, get your knowledge up, and it all becomes clear.

Floyd Mayweather doesn't need belts, but Keith Thurman does. Cotto doesn't, but Golovkin does.
Thurman doesn't need belts LOL.
He needs quality wins.
If fighters focus on quality wins, the accolades/trinkets will follow.
And then, the accolades/trinkets will be deserved and relevant.
And the same applies to Golovkin.
Guys with quality wins are better than belt-holders that have done little/nothing.

World titles are still precious to fighters because most need them.

So Haymon was willing to put Broner in with a guy who hasn't fought in a year and a half and has 9ko's in 20 fights and it's for a title... Shocking...

I dont need them.

Men make the titles, titles don't make the man.
Obviously titles do still have some value in the sport, but the degree obviously varies. Whoever wins this fight is in solid position but the title doesn't mean that much, the winner would have to go on and do things for the title to really have meaning.
Sure it is not ideal but as long as the winner doesn't Quillin up his title and really pretend to be something they aren't (without lining up other good fights after) then it is not that big of a deal. If they just sit on the belt fighting the Hank Lundy's of the world while claiming to be beast mode
champion of the class, that is when issue really come up.
