Comments Thread For: K. Porter: We'd Fight Thurman, Mayweather Rejected Us

Brooklyn, New York - It’s hard to argue that there is a better father-son combo in boxing than Shawn Porter and Kenny Porter. Shawn suffered the first loss of his career at the hands of UK’s Kell Brook last August.

Ken Porter let his son get over the loss in his own way and it was back to work. Though the trainer says there wasn’t much to talk about after the first loss because he felt strongly that his son won the fight.

If not Thurman or Brook, then it really should've been Porter. Think about it - Ortiz and Guerrero both beat Berto and got their Mayweather paydays. Maidana beat Broner and got 2 Mayweather paydays. Porter also beat Broner, so he should've been in there instead of this turdlet of a fight.

I think maidana got the fight because of all the haters yelling he would or could do to Floyd what he did to broner. If you noticed after porter beat broner no one was making any noise about porter being able to beat Floyd other than porters dad. To me that why porter is not getting a shot at Floyd.

True, but I'm just going by the patterns. It's like Mayweather is pulling a "c-c-c-c-combo breaker".

Get serious!!! Porter brings nothing to the table at all. He fights just as you'd expect a sparring partner to fight. Exactly as a sparring partner is what I should say.

In addition, he brings no personality or following.

You can't be a megastar in this sport when you have your pops (father) speaking on your behalf and basically representing you at all times.

Floyd is a genius in so many ways.

Even by selecting Berto, he's got people talking about the fight.

Berto brings a fan following to the table, at least. He brings the Haitian community.

What would Porter bring? What would Thurman bring?

Thurman certainly isn't bringing the casual or mainstream to the table.

Floyd made the right choice as he prepares for win #50 down the road at the new stadium being built in Vegas.

Yeah... I can't feel sympathy for father & son. If they feel they won their fight against Brook, they should be chasing a rematch instead of chasing a fight with Mayweather. It is not about the challenge, it is about the money; it is not something I have a problem with but it is not going to make me respect him as a worthy challenger with a legitimate gripe.

What Devon Alexander, Miguel Vasquez and Richard Abril are to pure boxing, Shawn porter is pressure fighting. They are the most ugly example of each craft. Everyone of the fights are boring to tears and I would rather not see it. Porter doesn't get fights, because Porter isn't appealing, and he wouldn't get clinched nearly as much if he didn't tackle and grind everyone he's in the ring with.
