If team Khan wants to go that route then Khan could continue to fight average fighters who don't punch hard until he retires and Khan would make good money every fight. Khan has the most loyal, devoted fans of any boxer I know of. True Khan fans think he is wonderful no matter who he fights or how he preforms in fights. Khan says he will fight Pacquiao,Thurman and Brook but just not right now. He will fight them all in late 2016. I think when 2016 is over and he still hasn't fought a dangerous fighter then Khan will promise to fight the tough guys late in 2017.

Idk. Its done wonders for his marketing. There are people who think Mayweather is scared of Khan since Khan signed with Haymon. I'm not sure Arum coulda gotten that job accomplished.

Khan-Thurman makes a lot of sense right now and I can't imagine how it doesn't get made for December. Both guys want it, it seems....Khan can target a belt, Thurman can target greater glory.

And fighting top 10 fighters is cool, but he only fought one guy in the top 10 since he been there. fighting top 5 fighters at your weight is even better. And Algieri wasn't ranked at all at 147 remember?
Algieri was the WBO titlist at 140 moving up in weight and had already gone 12 with Pacquiao.

And I'm not gonna post a Ring ranking and say "hey look, Thurman is higher", these are the same people that had ranked Broner as p4p 6 or 5 or whatever that BS was.

But the thread is about Haymon and Khan wasn't with Haymon when he lost to Garcia. And the fact he got wrecked by him is relevant because he hasn't taken a risk since then.

Not really protecting him, Amir Khan has choices with Haymon, the fighters fight who they and their team choose to fight. You can't really force fighters into a fight, either they accepted or they don't. Same goes for the other Promoters, they can't force their fighter to take fights.

All the Blame goes on Khan and his team, not Haymon! Khan is the one who decided to play it safe in hope that Mayweather pick him and clearly that backfired!

Why is the assumption that Haymon is protecting Khan, when the reality seems to be Khan protecting Khan?

Al Haymon isn't a promoter; at it's very root his role is generally as a fighter's manager or adviser to a fighter's manager. Haymon's sole job is to maximize the money/opportunities available for the fighters that he works with.

Outside of a fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr (which Floyd can decide to make or not make on his on whim), Amir Khan has access to every welterweight fighter worth fighting, sans Timothy Bradley and Manny Pacquiao, all in showdowns that would put great money in his pocket.

It's not Haymon's fault that Khan doesn't want any of those fights; Khan, at this point, makes his own decisions, with Haymon doing his best to facilitate things for him.

Wilder is due to fight Povetkin December/January-February 2016 (negotiations are due to begin in October, with the possible purse bid coming by November if talks are unfruitful. Depending on when the camps start out, both fighters would be 10 weeks from the fight) and Klistchko-Wilder is due after that (No idea how long a deal he signed with HBO, but the Fury fight would be his third fight on HBO, with enough time for a fourth fight before possibly moving to Wilder, so TV considerations won't be much of an issue; the bulk of his money coming from Germany also doesn't leave him in a position for HBO to **** him either)
