There are some here who don't understand weight classes, how they work, their purpose, etc. This guy apparently believes that a light heavyweight must actually weigh-in right at 175.

And I really don't understand what Golovikin has done that makes people believe that he wouldn't get beaten by Kovelev (outside of a sparring session years ago - which means nothing).

Why is the US media trying to match triple ggg with the krusher.....is it because there trying to keep kovalev away from ward as they don't want there Son of god to taste defeat......let's put things in to perspective......kovalev is 175 and golovkin is 159 tops....that's a massive weight difference right there.....golovkin might have the style to beat him and possess the power to make size irrelevant but he don't need to move up.....fights like Lemieux , canelo and cotto are in front of him and even a long shot of mayweather if he makes 154.....kovalev and ward are evenly matched....
Here are some future fights to look forward to
            1 rigondeux vs frampton
            2 crawford vs matthysse
            3 klitschko vs Joshua
            4 ward vs kovalev
            5 brook vs khan
            6 lomachencko vs Walters
            7 golovkin vs canelo
            8 golovkin vs cotto
            9 klitschko vs wilder
10 mayweather vs pacquaio 2 ( I believe the first fight was not scored properly and one of the fighters was carrying an injury so it was not a true reflection of this fight so a rematch is in order )

So let's say if Golovkin was allowed come in at 169-171lbs and Kovalev his normal weight., the fight could happen. Maybe there'd be a hydration limit for Kovalev?

The best case scenario is Kovalev easily making 172lbs like Fonfara fought Chavez, if optionally Golovkin came in at 168lbs there'd only be 4lbs difference. Let's be honest, there wouldn't need to be a title at stake for a fight between GGG and Kovalev!!
Kovalev is WAAAY too big for GGG. The options you suggested, as the catchweight way under 175 and rehydration clause for Kovalev, will make him look like zombie. Otherwise, in their normal weights and conditions Kovalev will literally kill GGG.
Pacman vs Margarito example was not good because Pacman was MUCH better and faster fighter.

No realistic person expects GGG to go up and fight Kovalev. His critics, like myself, simply have an issue with him not being willing to fight Ward. Ward-GGG is today's Jones-Toney.

Gennady Golovkin is a coward. He'll never fight Ward.

I'd pick Kovalev to win, but I have Golovkin a live dog in the fight (purely based on sparring stories - which are verified btw).

Dream on. Kovalev has already made it clear that he fights at 175, and I have no doubt that Kovalev has no intention of ever signing any rehydration clause. Just to be clear, it is my belief that Kovalev will fight any other fighter at 175 (with no rehydration clause), but that it will be a non-negotiable condition of his fights. There will be no negotiating for a catch weight, there will be no rehydration clause, there will only be a fight at light heavyweight - 175 pounds, and if a fighter wants to sign to fight Sergey at 175, then Sergey will fight - even if the fighter is GGG. Also, please check Abel Sanchez's recent comments about Sergey's development as a fighter since he's been training under John David Jackson.
