While Sergey Kovalev commaned most of the attention in town and on the dial in his three-round destruction of overmatched Nadjib Mohammedi, another major headliner took place in Las Vegas. The 12-round of action (or lack thereof) produced by Kazakhstan's Beibut Shumenov and B.J. Flores hardly left the industry abuzz, although the final scores warrant greater mention than what has taken place to date.

Shumenov walked away with a unanimous decision in their interim cruiserweight title last Saturday at Palms Resort in Las Vegas. All three judges scoring the bout 116-112 in favor of the former 175 lbs. titlist, on an NBC Sports Network televised presentation of Al Haymon's Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) series. This is a ridiculous non-story. There is nothing troubling about the scores. It was a boring fight where neither guy did much, which could be hard to score. And yet, the judges agreed on 8 out of 12 rounds. They agreed unanimously that Shumenov won 6 rounds, so the best Flores could've done was draw if they unanimously agreed on the other 6 rounds going to Flores. The judges split the disputed rounds evenly. The writer only identifies 3 rounds that were obvious Flores rounds, in his opinion. What is troubling about that? Why are we getting this post when we should be getting a closer look at the scores of Pascal-Gonzalez, a decision that many people actually watched and disagreed with?

I agree. I was actually at the fight and had absolutely no issue with the scores. The only reason people had any issue were the loud and belligerent Flores fans. I was with my son and had to move out of our section. You don't see these kinds of posts after a Mayweather fight. It's not most thrilling style but it's boxing at it's best. Not comparing Shumenov to Mayweather but he was far and away the best boxer in the ring that night.
