  • Comments Thread For: Mathews, Barroso Ordered To Fight For WBA Interim

The Championship Committee of the World Association ordered the start of negotiations between Derry Mathews and Ismael Barroso, to battle for the interim WBA 135-pound title.

As previously stated, both parties have a maximum of 90 days to fight for the title.

Failure to reach an agreement and have it signed and submitted to the WBA before August 10, 2015, will cause a purse bid to be called.

Matthews should be nowhere near a world title really but I do feel a bit sorry for him since he's stopped Crolla once and drew with him the second time yet Crolla is getting back-to-back world title shots before him.

He's had an up and down sort of career.

Soon as a UK lightweight beats another they are title shot material, all pretty handy with at least one of the governing bodies.

Paul Smith got 2 chances without beating anyone above British level (while getting beat twice) so compared to him Derry deserves his chance...

A shame for Derry as he lost his title shot when Abril pulled out. Then won his interim fight and was set to to be facing the Crolla Vs Perez winner..but then the fight ended in a draw.

He will probably lose to Barroso now and won't get his shot at the title.
It's been a bit of a merry go-round with the WBA at 135.
