Comments Thread For: WBA: Abril Loses His Status as 'Champion in Recess'

As previously reported on BoxingScene.com, the Championship Committee of the World Boxing Association has ordered a direct and immediate rematch between champion 135 pound, the Colombian Darley Perez and British challenger Anthony Crolla.

The fight was held on July 18 as a voluntary defense for Perez and ended with controversial cards of 113-113, 113-113, 116-111. No knockdowns, but Perez was penalized two points during the action.

How was Abril supposed to fight Perez before August when Perez had signed a contract to fight Crolla in July? The WBA should have ordered Perez-Abril instead of a rematch. Abril schools both easy.
