Too early for that. Kovalev/Pascal is already scheduled, Ward is coming off a significant layoff and he hasn't even planned his next move yet. He wanted GGG and Kovalev because it would give him wins over 2 of the top 10 best fighters in the world and put him at the pinnacle of the sport. So naturally, it would make sense to fight GGG at 168, beat him, and then go after Kovalev instead of beating Kovalev and having to go back down in weight.

Since GGG's team has essentially said "we can't beat you at 168 but if you give put yourself at a disadvantage we will try", we will see how this affects Ward's future plans.

The bold is the same problem with GGG going up then coming back for the winner of Cotto/Canelo. It makes more sense to fight the Cotto/Canelo winner then move up.

The difference is nobody in the history of the world is picking Cotto to beat GGG. It's not a good matchup at all and is a mismatch. The only thing that fight does is prove what we already know, that GGG wiould obliterate Miguel Cotto. GGG would be paid a lot of money for that mismatch if that's what people feel is more important but it's not a competitive fight.

While I think Canelo beats GGG, that fight is not a given as Canelo hasn't even decided what weight he wants to fight at. He has shown in the past that he does not care about or need belts so the WBC mandatory thing will not affect any of his decisions.

Wasn't a problem when he was negotiating with Froch though.

Cotto is the middleweight champ right now and needs to defend his strap against the best. I like Cotto. He's my favorite fighter right now but I defend no one. I wanted him to fight GGG before Canelo. I'm a boxing fan first. I do feel if Gabe Rosado lasted what 9 rounds, Cotto goes the distance. GGG's had lesser foes survive him. Cotto might stop GGG with body shots. He didn't seem to take them to good vs Monroe.

Froch and Ward are on two different levels and Froch would probably be the A side vs GGG. Regardless Froch brings viewers/money to the table.

And? He still had no problem moving up and then back down with Froch.

You can pretend not to know why if it fits your agenda.

Because its a superfight! Very few left and 2 invovle Ward.

If ward goes up dont think he will come back down and theres goes ggg/ward.

Maybe not now, but if Cotto beats Canelo impressively I'd expect there to be people to pick him to beat GGG.
