Comments Thread For: Hopkins Explains What Canelo Must Do To Beat Cotto

At some point the fight between Saul Alvarez and Miguel Cotto will be signed for November. It is perhaps the most anticipated match-up in the second half of 2015. Bernard Hopkins, who's a partner in Golden Boy Promotions, has a vested interest in this fight given that they promote 'Canelo'.

Hopkins believes that their man must be versatile and learn from his experience in losing to Floyd Mayweather a couple of years ago.

Same thing any fighter must do to "win". Sign with Al Haymon, run, hug, do anything you can to avoid getting KO'd. The cards are already filled out. Congratulations, "champ."

I'm sure it's going to be a close and exciting, but I think Cotto will lose this one.
When Cotto gets hit with that right hook, his knee will touch the canvas.

            This ^

Canelo will take Cotto's punches better than Cotto will take Canelo's.

In order to beat Cotto you need 4 things, a high volume of punches, good defense, very good stamina and a good chin. Of those Canelo seems to have one, descent chin, however, Canelos stamina, defense sucks and he is not a high volume punch fighter. I think Cotto will outbox him, is going to be a fight like Cotto vs Clottey.

Exactly, i completely agree. I see Cotto winning this because hes faster then canelo. Canelo is very robotic, slow and has some stamina issues. His punch output isnt great either. Cotto is a fast middleweight but im slightly worried if he gets caught by Canelo but i think Cotto is way too expieranced for Canelo and will Survive. Cotto is a Natural Survivor so he knows what its like to be hurt and knows what to do even in the 1st plaster Magarito fight he knew when to take a knee.

It's all about conditioning for me on this one. Using Mayweather as a measuring stick, If the same Cotto shows up he has a good shot at taking the win & if the same Canelo shows up he just might be in trouble.
