Where was all this when Duva was asking for the purse bid to fight Adonis? Kov didn't start hating Bieterbiev and wanting to fight his mandatories until after pulling out of the purse bid with Adonis?

Kovalev has had a strong dislike of Beterbiev for years. Earlier in the year, Kovalev made it clear that Russian boxing team members would substantiate the fact that Beterbiev won only because of crooked judges. That plus Beterbiev's boasting that he'll also beat Kovalev as a pro makes it clear to me that Kovalev and Beterbiev have a history and that neither man likes the other. In addition (although this has not been stated that I know of by either fighter) Kovalev is Christian and Beterbiev is ******. Furthermore, as professionals, Kovalev has demonstrated that he is the complete package whereas Beterbiev has so far looked as if he needs further development to be considered to have the same level ringmanship as Kovalev. If nothing else, Beterbiev is stiff - Frankenstein like - non athletic if you will in his movements.

Russia conquered the region in the 19th century, but it was never fully integrated. In the early 1990s when the USSR was breaking up, Chechnya tried to leave as well. Russia, however, claimed that Chechnya was an integral part of Russia and so it fought two wars in the region to keep it a part of Russia. Today, Chechnya is both a part of and not a part of Russia. It is run by a strong man friend of *****'s who doesn't enforce Russian law, only his own brand of justice. It will be interesting to see what happens in the future because the current situation is untenible.

Also, Chechens are hated by those around them and have been for centuries. They are descendents of traitors and conquerers, and hated by the Christians in the area (like the Georgians). In addition, they are renowed in the modern era for the presence in ********* elements across the Islamic world. There are many in Syria with ISIS right now, for instance.

I am aware. My point is nothing was said until after pulling out of the purse bid. SO while I know he has bad blood with him he is using that as a convenient justification for moving away from the Adonis fight.

There is one simple criteria here in order to know who is ducking who, and that is, WHO IS EASIER TO DEAL WITH NEGOTIATION WISE: The answer is Kovalev.

What does a purse bid have to do with anything anyway? Do two title-holders who want to face each other badly need a purse bid in order to fight? Up until recently, Stevenson has had no urgency to face Kovalev. He would've rather preferred Froch and Bute.
