  • Comments Thread For: De la Hoya: Golovkin-Lemieux is Dangerous For Both

Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya, who promotes IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux (34-2, 31KOs), expects a vicious war when his fighter steps inside the ring with IBO/WBA champion Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin (33-0, 30KOs).

Lemieux just captured his world title last month when he dropped Hassan N'Dam on path to a twelve round unanimous decision in Canada. He could have taken an easy first defense. Instead, he was willing to stake his belt in a fight where either boxer can easily get knocked out on October 17th at New York's Madisn Square Garden.

Golovkin is going to brutalise Lemieux.

Lemieux's chin did not look so good against Rubio. Golovkin took some great shots from Stevens. If chins get tested, and they will, can't see how Lemieux stays on his feet for long.

Agreed. Most people will be surprised cause there is a good chance Lemieux is getting knocked out within the first 2-3 rounds

are they really trying to sell this as tho its actually somewhat competitive? im not fooled at all lemieux is going to get completely dominated in there and i dont expect him to last 2 rounds. I got to admit im being stubborn about this fight cause i want ward ggg more then any other fight and this fight will be very entertaining i just dont see how lemiuex can survive more then a few rounds unless he gets lucky. crazier things have happened but i dont anticipate it being competitive

Stevens never caught golovkin flush on the point of the chin because golovkin kept his chin tucked. Stevens may have grazed him a few times but never caught him flush. And both stevens and rosado had their moments in their fights with golovkin and had him backing up at certain points in the fight. So he can be hurt. Had stevens been able to catch him flush things may have been a bit different. But both of them made the fight competitive and they are both b level fighters. Davids speed and power are going to present some problems for ggg. If he greatly improves his defense and works the body well this fight could be very interesting. Golovkin is still a flawed and unproven and untested fighter.

Golovkin seems to have trouble going back, I wonder if Lemieux will be able to exploit it.

Lemieux leaves giant openings, and is available for punishment too much. His balance is weak. Golovkin will land early and often and knock the holy freaking crap out of this guy. Way more skills, way more accuracy, way more power.

You sound ridiculous and absurd. Spoken like a true golovkin groupie. Golovkin isn't the bigger puncher in this fight david is. David is also faster and more explosive. Just look at the outcome of the rosado fights respectively and you will see that david dished out more punishment and damage than golovkin did. Rosado was floored repeatedly in the fight with david and even suffered a broken orbital bone. He was never floored in the golovkin fight and never suffered any broken bones. He was just stopped on cuts but was prepared to continue. He was looking for a way out when he fought david. Golovkin is a bit more skilled but not much. The notion that his is far superior in terms of skill is straight BS. David just needs to really tighten up his defense, work the body hard and well, put his punches together and this fight could be very interesting.
