Right, because... you simply cannot train, until your name appears in print, right?

    Pretty dumb guys !

Mayweather will not need to do anything underhanded to prepare for Berto.

Does that fight really sound like Mayweather will need to pull out all the stops?

He let Canelo prepare, and he let Pacquiao prepare.

What do you think is preventing Berto from training now, in anticipation ?

      That's the negotiation process.
      You really are that simple.

Floyd is pushing 40 and we still expect him to take on elite champs every time he's in the ring, what other boxer his age in any era was held to those standards. SRL was washed up at 38, so was Ali.
The standard is less to do with age and more to do with performance. Yes, this isn't prime Floyd by any means. But he is not washed up like SRL or Ali were. In no planet is the hands down #1 P4P fighter too washed up to fight someone with a pulse.

If he were retiring, I wouldn't be like "no wait he still has to fight so and so!" I'd say good for him, he's had a long successful career and will be remembered as a great. But because he's not doing that, then yes I will expect him to fight opposition that is reasonable.

According to fat Dan the hold up is due to the fact that even though Jr. has said this is his last fight Showtime wants guarantees to the network for future fights in case he does come back.
Maybe they are afraid Haymon will use Jr.'s 50th to help with PBC and pay him under the table.

                  Retire already....
You realize every boxer in his position did the same thing before him right? And it won't stop after he's gone. Sugar Ray Robinson was also a diva. DLH did the exact same thing to Floyd, chose the weight, what gloves, the arena, the date, the size of the ring. GGG wants Ward to drop down to 164. Not like that matters, the A side (and even the non A side) always chooses the arena and the date. Tyson made Holyfield take extra testing. Like I said, the things Floyd has done, was done before him and it will be done after him. So might as well stop watching boxing. Floyd doesn't need to retire from the sport, you need to retire from watching this sport.
