Comments Thread For: Team Kovalev: 50-50 Offer on The Table for Stevenson

Sergey Kovalev - who on Saturday night dispatched Nadjib Mohemmedi in three round at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas - is the owner of the IBF, WBA and WBO light heavyweight titles. But he's made it clear that he still yearns for the WBC strap, which is currently held by Adonis Stevenson. So what are the chances of them unifying the 175-pound class anytime soon?

In the last year or so both Kovalev and Stevenson have walked away from the potential bout for various reasons, mostly having to do with the fractured nature of the business. While Stevenson is under the au****es of Al Haymon and the Premier Boxing Champions universe, Kovalev just recently signed an exclusive multi-fight pact with HBO.

50-50? That's as good as it's gonna get for Stevenson. He should take it.

They should offer 60/40 to Stevenson if they want him to go to HBO to make up for the smaller HBO license fee.

Stevenson will defend the title against a few more tomato cans for more money in Montreal before he agrees to lose the belt to Kovalev. I reckon late 2016.

This is crap though because both fighters would make more money with Haymon.

On one side you have a guy being overpaid for fighting bums (although Fonfara is legit) and on the other side you have HBO who has become some stingy SOBs.

This fight is dead at this point.

Wouldn't Stevenson be paid much more than he ever has for this fight, on HBO?

Also, can you link me to another example as to where a 'smaller HBO license fee' affects a purse? (in a similar situation) I don't think a 'business doe' response proves anything

i remember when my interest level in Kovalev-Stevenson was a 10...nowadays, its hovering around the 6-7 level

i would rather see Ward-Kovalev tbh

If not Stevenson, then looks like we got a good consolation prize.

Not for much longer, Waddell & Reed are in some trouble.

Stevenson is irrelevant, two years ago fight would have been something. Stevenson's stock decline by his performances while Kovalev's stock is rising.
