Comments Thread For: Pascal: I Was Controlling The Fight, It Was Very Close

Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas - In the first bout on the HBO World Championship Boxing telecast, former light heavyweight world champion Jean Pascal (30-3-1, 17 KOs) faced undefeated Cuban Yuniesky Gonzalez (16-1, 12 KOs) in ten rounds of light heavyweight action. Gonzalez was the aggressor from the first bell. Pacal returned fire with a flurry of punches in the second that seemed to stun Gonzalez. Yuniesky continued his fierce attack on Pascal in the fourth but the former champ continued to counter with equally brutal punches.

Pascal did great, the fight was close and very entertaining.

Gonzalez wobbled around quite a few times near the end every time he got tagged.

      Pascal won, get over it

Candidate for fight of the year, could have went either way but clearly not a robbery. Pascal was more accurate and landed the more highlight real punches! Gonzales gassed!

You're always going to hear the old "close fight but not a robbery" excuse on NSB. It's almost like people saw it apply to a few fights and just said F it if the fight was decided by 2-3 rounds it was close and you can't call it a robbery... Unfortunately most fights that don't end in KO are decided by only a few rounds ... Especially 10 rounders... Gonzalez got robbed PERIOD!!!

Pascal did land some great shots. Like I said earlier I had it a draw, but it's easy to see a point either way. Certainly no robbery. Like a very few others have said, Gonzalez was sloppy the last few rounds, probably exhausted. Both guys basically got what they needed. Pascal gets the big money rematch with Kov, and Gonzalez proved he's no can and will get other good fights. He will probably be on the Kov/Pascal II undercard. And wouldn't it be great if that was vs Beterbiyev.

Pascal admits he was "controlling the fight", probably because the judges were bought out

But seriously. Pascal should have lost the fight. Gonzalez won by at least 2 rounds. A draw, I could live with, but a UD in favor of Pascal? **** no.
