  • Comments Thread For: Hughie Fury Decisions Arias, Nick Blackwell Stops Jones

Derby—It was a night of firsts at the Derby Arena tonight on a Mick Hennessy-promoted bill.

It is the first time the event has hosted televised boxing, courtesy of Channel 5, and Trowbridge’s Nick “**** ****” Blackwell (11st 5lbs 1oz) topped the bill with his maiden defence of the British middleweight title he won when stopping John Ryder for the vacant belt at London’s O2 Arena in May.

Leeds-based contender Damon Jones (11st 5lbs 50z) was in the opposite corner. The 22-year-old held an unblemished 13-0 (3 KOs with one No Contest) slate going into his first crack at the Lonsdale belt.

Nice KO from Blackwell. Likes of Etches and Doran would be good fights if he fancies going for the Lonsdale outright.

For such large men, the Fury's don't seem to possess much power

Good one. I'm not a professional heavyweight boxer.

They don't plant their feet very much as there is alot of target area to be countered being 6'6 and 6'9 with that weight on the frame where the majority of the time they are straight up and can't duck the shots. Look at gamble he took in the Cunningham fight he got knocked down flat on his back and was losing the fight on the scorecards when he planted his feet and went in ****ing. That cruiserweight Canadian bloke put him down aswell doing the same thing.
