Welsch just shut the thread down...
And still plenty more to go.
The days of "the great white hype" being believable are looong gone.
In fact for the past decade the HW division has been the exact opposite of thst movie with America and the West desperately trying to find. Great black hope.Comment

They are represent themselves more than in the past and they produce good fighters, sure. But talking about "take over"? I don't think so. USA, UK, Mexico and in lower divisions Japan will always be a big factor in boxing, can't see that they will be shrink just because the EE wave.
Not everybody is elite who come from EE. They have their elite (Kovalev, Beterbiev, Klitschko, Golovkin) and also the B or C level guys (Gradovich, Shafikok, Korobov, Chagaev) as everyone else.Comment

Yeah they are about to take over as long as they don't have to face competition like Andre Ward at his comfortable weight or Erislandy Lara who's cuban style is also apparently too much for the HBO bum of the month fighter. 164 doe. Willie Monroe Jr. was slicker, better, and earned his shot over Lara doe. GGG might open the flood gates to even more HBO hype jobs with shit resumes and a diva attitude that wasn't earned.Comment

They have pretty much already taken over the sport. The heavier weight divisions are starting to be dominated by european fighters to a large extent.
Now, these central asian and some east european fighters are creeping into the lighter weight divisions too.Comment

The worst thing is that not even the next HW champion will be American either... wait another decade or so

And what's your problem with Americans exactly? Soul survivor too with his insightful signature. I'm just curious.
I never understood what does it take to become a boxing fan for somebody who generally dislike Americans and the USA. I mean we are talking about a sport here with the USA as it's centre and a sport which was dominated by Americans (and an American is P4P #1 now too) throughout it's history.
You know if I would have an agenda against a nation - which I haven't - I wouldn't start to follow sport where that nation is successful and that country is the centre of it because that's some kind of masochism.Last edited by HEND; 07-24-2015, 09:32 AM.Comment

I like a lot of American fighters, my two favourite fighters of all time are Leonard and Ali.And what's your problem with Americans exactly? Soul survivor too with his insightful signature. I'm just curious.

I guess it's a reaction to butt hurt Americans refusing to give European fighters due credit/slating them, etc. I'm not anti-American in general. The point is when you say the US is centre of the sport, this simply isn't true. The Ring currently has 2 Americans on their p4p list, in Mayweather and Crawford, while Vladimir, GGG and Kovalev are there too.And what's your problem with Americans exactly? As somebody else mentioned, the heavier divisions seem to become more and more dominated by Eastern Europeans and Russians - America only has Wilder to boast of, and he hasn't proven himself yet.Comment

Irish and people of Irish descent have always dominated combat sports. Look at some of the current guys.
Conor McGregor
Andre Ward
Katie Taylor
Joe Duffy
Andy Lee
Carl Frampton
Anthony Joshua
Paddy O'Holohan
Tyson Fury
Hughie Fury
Then you have to remember the older guys like Ali,Quarry,Cooney,McLaurin, etcComment
