  • Comments Thread For: Barrera Backs Canelo Big Time To Beat Miguel Cotto

Former champion Marco Antonio Barrera is confidently backing countryman Saul "Canelo" Alvarez to defeat WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto in their planned November fight.

Cotto-Canelo is going to take place on a date in November, either the 7th or 21st, on HBO Pay-Per-View. The MGM Grand and the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas are the two venues seen as the frontrunners. But Madison Square Garden in New York City is also attempting to grab the fight with a huge offer on the table.

Alls fair buddy, Cotto himself has been fighting smaller guys throughout his carrier so if the guy can make weight its on, no excuses. In a street fight there's no such thing as weight limit or how big.tall, and small you just fuc?en fight no bitc!ing here!!!

I give Canelo the edge too Its been a few fights since Cotto fought someone at Canelo's level so we'll see. I still think it will be a good fight regardless

If or when they fight i'm going with Cotto purely on workrate.I like Alvarez but his stamina is crap and his workrate isn't the best either.

So Barrera is picking Canelo because Cotto doesn't move as well as he used to?

But Canelo doesn't move at all. I don't get his logic. Cotto has twice the foot speed that Canelo possesses. That's just a Mexican picking a Mexican.

He has never been that heavy, he will probably be 170-173. Also Cotto is not as small as some people here like to think, he is probably the same size as Lara weight wise, and there is a reason why he didn't want to do a fight day weight in when he fought Geale.

cotto will box canelas ears off. alvared will get frustrated and start swinging for the fences. then he'll gas out and the whooping will begin.

Interesting point of view of what would be happening that night. Personally I think that styles make fights and this fight will be an interesting clash of styles. Who wins? If Cotto box, he should be winning round by round and winning by unanimous decision. If Cotto decides to fight, I see Canelo stopping Cotto in the late rounds.
