Wanted GGG-Ward. I guess I have to settle for this. It's turning out to be another Mayweather-Pacquiao problemo...

That and Lemeuix needs an opponent. Only available opponents, since he doesn't even have a mandatory yet, are really....non-factors.

Add in HBO won't pay for any of them and he'll be up there in Canadian PPV with GBP stuck with his minimum.

Plus Oscar can use this to get dates for him and his fighters. HBO was preapred to offer Lee a 3 fight package on HBO if he fought GGG

Golovkin takes out Lemieux, Canelo takes out Cotto. After Lemieux, GGG takes out Lee and then the big unification fight between Canelo and GGG with Lemieux vs Cotto on the undercard. That would conclude Cotto's three fight deal with RN and he could then retire after two straight loses and not have to ever fight GGG. Lemieux could go on to fight Canelo after he loses to GGG to complete his three fight deal with HBO.

GGG, now the undisputed unified middleweight champion of the world, could then challenge Ward if he has yet to be destroyed by Kovalev and gone into retirement.

I wonder if this was apart of the step aside deal for Golovkin. Like, Team GGG said, "either you give us the winner of the fight, or we get a fight with Lemiuex". Something like that.

floyd and pac were in the same division and didn't fight for 5 years. ward and ggg have never been in the same division and that's the biggest hurdle. if ward wants to fight someone in another division he can fight kovalev

If HBO is smart they'll put T.Johnson/O'Kane on the undercard of Golovkin/Lemieux in October and the winner on the undercard of Golovkin/Lee in ~January. HBO could build up Golovkin's mandatory and squeeze out another good fight, which in turn builds up a potential Golovkin/Alvarez fight in September '16.

Hopefully we get Makunouchi-GGG or Ward GGG to end the year on another high note.

If it becomes a part of the step aside deal, it should be "you give us the winner of the fight AND a fight with Lemieux before the end of 2015." Golovkin is the mandatory challenger for the WBC title and they have no choice but to give him the shot at the winner. But GGG does not have to step aside no matter what they offer him. So Oscar and Roc Nation need to make it as attractive a deal as possible. A fight with Lemieux along with a signed agreement/contract to fight the winner, PLUS significant monetary considerations on Cotto's part should be enough to get GGG to step aside.

There is no possible way that a Golovkin vs Cotto/Canelo winner fight should wait until September 2016. That fight needs to happen as the first GGG fight of 2016 in February or his second in May or June at the latest if he is able to get Lee first. But there is no way it should wait until Sept. It would be a perfect fight for Cinco de Mayo.
