  • Comments Thread For: Omar Figueroa Will Return To Trainer Joel Diaz

Former WBC lightweight champion Omar 'Panterita" Figueroa (25-0-1, 18KOs) will return to trainer Joel Diaz for his next bout, in late September, after defeating Ricky Burns last May.

For his last fight, Figueroa parted ways with Diaz and started training with his father Omar Figueroa Sr.

Omar's father will no longer participate in the corner with Diaz being the head voice that leads the team. Figueroa was not satisfied with his training camp or his performance in the last fight. He was making his junior welterweight debut, but failed to make the limit by coming in at 141.5-pounds. The fight in September will take place at 140-pounds.

We've seen that this is nearly always the right move, but how tough would that be? To fire your pops after it was you and him against the world for years and years to get you to where you're replacing him with Joel Diaz?

That has gotta' be a tough call and speaking for myself, I think I would have a tough time making it.

Yea their usually isn't a break up unless they butt heads with their dad. Can't see Danny Garcia or Guerrero leaving their dad but they really should

Omar only didn't work with Joel cause he didn't wanna be away from his family lol
