Comments Thread For: Cotto-Canelo: Jayson Velez Likely Candidate For Card

Puerto Rican featherweight Jayson 'La Maravilla' Velez is a likely candidate to appear on the undercard to the Miguel Cotto vs. Saul "Canelo" Alvarez HBO Pay-Per-View card. The event is being targeted for the month of November with the 21st being a strong candidate.

Velez's promotional ties have placed him at the head of the line to appear on the show. He is co-promoted by Golden Boy Promotions (who have Canelo) and Miguel Cotto Promotions.

I don't think we can expect much from this undercard. The Cotto promotions cards never have particularly interesting bouts on the undercard. Hopefully Golden Boy will want to put at least one of their interesting prospects on there, like a JoJo Diaz or a (if he can ever make weight) Frankie Gomez.

Alvarado a bum? Alvarado is a solid fringe contender. He beat Robinson Castellanos and lost tough fights to Rocky Juarez and Eric Hunter.

The Alvarado win for the 22 year old Joseph Diaz Jr. is better than anything on the resume of the 27 year old Jayson Velez, , .

And Frankie Gomez could probably only train for a week going into a fight against Michael Perez and make him quit sooner than Omar Figueroa Jr. did, .
