  • Comments Thread For: Chavez Wants To Silence Nacho Beristain, Other Critics

Disproving opposing trainer Nacho Beristain is among the things motivating Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. as he heads toward his must-win fight against Marcos Reyes on Saturday night in El Paso, Texas.

Beristain, a Mexican legend who has trained Reyes for the Chavez fight, has criticized Chavez numerous times in the past and recently indicated Chavez’s change of trainers, from Joe Goossen to Robert Garcia, isn’t going to fix what’s wrong with Chavez (48-2-1, 32 KOs, 1 NC). When asked about Beristain’s criticism on a recent conference call, the 29-year-old Chavez expressed his displeasure with the International Boxing Hall of Fame trainer’s comments.

Chavez Jr will never silence all of his critics. But he still can go on and have a nice career and earn a nice living. Two or three more losses and he starts to become more trouble than he's worth.

Fighting a guy like Marcos Reyes (win or lose) I think draws more criticism than anything. The only guys Chavez Jr. beats are his fellow country men that he has a clear height and weight advantage over.

Chavez is delusional if he doesn't understand why he is getting so much criticism. It's because he is nothing more then a hype job living off his daddy's name. Yeah he has only lost twice but he's leaving out the fact that both loses he won 1 round combined in those fights and was dominated. The second one he finally faced a guy his own size and quit on his stool forcing the mexican crowd to turn on him throwing beers at him and starting a mini riot. He's a disgrace to mexican's now. The wins he does have all came against weak competition from guys way to small for him. People in boxing resent the opportunities he got, that he didn't deserve or earn, simply because of his last name.

And lets not forget how many different trainers he has had and how all of them say how spoiled and lazy he was. Before the biggest fight of his career he was on HBO 24/7 blowing off his hall of fame trainer to lay around the house in pink underwear. He shows no respect to the sport of boxing. And the one chip he had with mexicans was because of his last name but all that is gone after his last fight.

It's a comeback fight, he needs to build his confidence back and get used to the new trainer, the new regimen and he needs an easy opponent t be able to apply the things he learnt on, I have no problems with the fight, I'm actually glad he didn't jump in there with some big name to make a good payday, him fighting Reyes shows that he wants to get his career back on track.

Chavez Doesn't Get It; He's Recognized As A Pot Smoking Headcase

Chavez points out what he's done. What he fails to realize, is his potential. He's accomplished a lot, with weak training, not managing his weight, getting high on weed all the time, having personal problems with everyone around him, as he's the common denominator. The point is, he's under-achieving big time. Stop reading your own press clippings. He trained only 10 days for Sergio Martinez. He wouldn't go to the gym, so they moved sofas and furniture around in the house for him to shadow box because he was too lazy to leave the house for the gym! WHO does that? What trainer or promoter should put up with that lack of discipline? Nacho shares what everyone else in Boxing has already said. Chavez isn't going to put anything to rest fighting this tomato can this Saturday Night. He should be out there fighting the likes of the Lara's, Macklins, GGG, Quillin, Trout, and guys like these... The kid has fried his brain and common sense on weed.

wow... all the hate coming from all these keyboard warriors.. let the man dream and wish he somehow becomes a portion of his dad..

On another note, hope he loses and doesn't keep getting undeserved TV time, because I think he's way overrated.. at least our other Mexican Canelita is beating the life out of the tomato cans they put in front of him.. well just angulo and Kirkland..

                  Good luck with that.

The hole is too deep and he's just not good enough to dig his way out.
