In what world are most Irish-Americans Protestant? The Kennedy family, home of JFK, Bobby Kennedy, and "The ******* Lion" Edward "Ted" Kennedy, was looked down upon, generally, by the WASP (White, Anglo-Saxon, Protestant) American voting populace for their catholic faith [some went as far as pondering whether the Pope would be able to have a hand in running the country, over the Kennedy devotion to Catholicism].
Not trying to be a ****, but name a single notable Irish-American who is/was non-Catholic.Comment

The El Paso move is pitch perfect, especially for a foreign fighter having his very first fight abroad, regardless of how much you try to trash it:
-Frampton-Gonzalez Jr is airing, on terrestrial TV, in the UK by 10pm (a reasonable enough time for his home fans to see him, while also paralleling the broadcast of the Quigg fight on the same night) and in the afternoon in the US.
-Frampton's fight is going to be held at the same venue, and as a package deal, as that night's Chavez Jr fight (Chavez Jr is still a scion of the Julio Cesar Chavez name, El Paso, TX is a border city, and the Mexican/Mexican-American fight fan enjoy a good fight).
-Frampton fights in a style that the Latin fight fan has come to appreciate and rally behind, regardless of where the fighter is from.
Frampton will have a good crowd in the building for the fight, in a style matchup that should make for a good fight, aired at an hour that his own home fans can still watch, while also debuting him in the US (with moves to the East Coast in the wings, once he gets introduced to people).
Outside of the co-feature to Floyd Mayweather's last fight, or the co-feature to Garcia-Malignaggi in August, I doubt that you can come up with a better stage to have Frampton debut stateside on.Comment

In this world:

Contrary to common belief, a national poll has found the Irish American population to be more Protestant.
Your Presidents Jackson, Polk, Buchanan, Johnson, Grant, Arthur, Cleveland, Harrison, McKinley, Roosevelt, Wilson, Nixon & Carter. Not trying to be a ****, but name a single notable Irish-American who is/was non-Catholic.Last edited by Weebler I; 07-13-2015, 01:36 PM.Comment

Their ancestors were, by and large, Catholic and starved out of Ireland by a Brit government that was obsessed with the rights of landlords. Whether or not the descendants are "still" Catholic is kind of beside the point.
But anyway, back to boxing...Comment

I'm not surprised where this is going...
I'll give you all the cliff notes version of what's going on between Irish Catholics and Irish Protestants/British... So you'll better understand the history.
(There are very deep seated emotions being conjured here, playing with fire really.)
King Henry VIII wanted his 8th divorce (Asking this from the Pope) in his quest for a male heir to the throne...
After granting so many annulments already, this time the Pope said No.
So the King was upset and decided to start his own branch of Christianity which he called the Anglican Church... This was almost inevitable already due to existing dissension in Christian practice amongst many Christians already. (See Martin Luther)
The King outlawed Catholicism in England and tried to spread that everywhere .. Wales and Scotland first up.. (Many Scotts went to Ireland to escape, some returning later thus Scotch Irish.) This took many years.
After consolidating the British Isle. The British then tried to force this on the Ireland.. In a most bloody fashion... ( See Cromwell )
The British were only successful in converting the northern third of Ireland to be Protestants... Ireland never capitulated and this war raged, to various degrees, for centuries...
In the 20th century things grew particularly bloody, Ireland employed the IRA (Irish ********** Army) basically modern urban guerilla warfare... injustices were committed on both sides..
Ultimately Northern Ireland broke off from Ireland and became part of the British Empire, enraging most Irish... That's what you're dealing with today..
In my perfect world, the North would rejoin to created a unified Ireland once again... Separated into 7 States/Governing Territories. 2 in the Protestant North and 5 in the Catholic South and Central.. Each Territory given greater autonomy in self government, without fear of the other States/Territories imposing their will upon them...
Think about it, a United Ireland without the religious distrust playing into the politics within each State/Territory... The British would not like this, but most Irish would... Even the North if they were guaranteed self-governing autonomy.Comment

One more thing.
WHY FIGHT IN TEXAS ?
Everyone know it's hard to get a fair shake in Texas... Never fight a Texas fighter in Texas... One of the main reasons this sport is viewed with su****ion to the outside world is the questionable officiating, like what frequently comes out of Texas.
You can add to that almost any Fighter from one country going into another country and expecting even handed officiating / judgments...Comment
should be on the East Coast
