Rewatching Khan vs Maidana round 1

I remember the build to this fight, everyone said khan would duck and he had no chance, that Maidana would ko him with a jab in the first round.

As round 1 began, Maidana landed a couple of good shots and it was nervy times, then Khan stepped in and landed a nice combo to the body, Maidana crumbled to the floor, few could belive it, he got up and Khan unloaded to the head, but the bell sounded and Maidana survived.

It was a great fight with Maidana coming back in the later rounds, and Khan showing a lack of ring iq to not stick to what was working.

    Wouldnt mind a rematch

I still remember when Khan could have been classified as a good fighter.

Am still looking for that pre-fight sig that was made on here by one of the posters which says Khan landed 300 odd punches but Maidana landed 1 and he won by KO lol. I didn't give Khan any chance too by the way.

Too add, I picked Khan, expected him to do better than he did but that wasn't the case. Thinking about it now I tend to underestimate Maidana.

Maidana admitted after the fight that if the first round was 30 seconds longer he could have lost in the 1st round. That was a great performance by Khan, he beat a prime, fresh Maidana while others have had difficulty with the battle weary, faded Maidana (like Broner, Mayweather etc..)

I remember Khan wasn't give much of a shot in this fight. Most people thought he wouldn't even take the fight.

The 1st round was very lively. Maidana came out fast and caught Khan with a good shot. Khan responded well and controlled most of the round.
That body shot was a peach and Maidana hadn't recovered at all after the 8 count. The bell could of easily saved Maidana in that first round.

Rematch at 147 is pretty much guaranteed fireworks and drama. Both improved in different aspects. Hope Maidana starts better in a rematch though, deadly double body shot from Khan took something out of him for sure. (losing a point for the elbow didn't help as well)

I watched this fight a few weeks back and Maidana had his moments though, rounds 3,6 and 7 were Maidana rounds, 10 of course was a 10-8 style beating, rounds 11 and 12 could also be given to Maidana.

7-5 or 6-6, Khan did not dominate this fight like some often say he did.
