If Thurman wants a fight with Mayweather, he needs to win a championship belt by beating a world champion or beat someone ranked in the top five in the welterweight division.

Mayweather didn't get to where he is today by beating the Luis Collazos' and Leonard Bundus' of the boxing world. Using this logic, Mayweather should fight Willie Nelson next. Simply because a fighter is praised for his potential doesn't mean that Mayweather should fight him. Thurman has done nothing to earn a shot against Mayweather and should STFU until he does.
