  • Keith Thurman is a future ATG

PSYCHE! HAHAHAHAHAAHA WTH was that BS last night? The much vaunted power...in Atlas' words "he has H bombs in his hands" yet he has struggled against a european level fighters, a past it guy who was barely anything at welterweight and now a guy who was battered by Khan over 12 one sided rounds.

Now, let's stay on that Khan topic...we've been told Thurman is better than Khan, that he's ranked 3rd (Seriously wtf) and here we have a 34 year old Collazo literally walking through everything Thurman had to offer. Where's that power? Where's the much vaunted speed and skills, yes he was elusive at times and I had him a single round up lol

Now I dunno what happened at the end, I've seen worse cuts and I've seen doctors let fights carry on. It's clear collazo no longer had the heart for it, which is sad because his legs were working just fine. But thurman showed what I saw against Bundu and Guerrero, he doesn't like getting hurt, he has only decent power and he gets lost when guys start to not get worried. Yes he showed some heart but cmon now.

Thurman is good but he is far from being the world beater yall kept telling me he was.

    Cue fools.

        He's still a good fighter.

I feel his power is over-rated though, I also have real questions about his punch resistance and defence. Those are not areas you can afford to be loose in.

His defense is good enough, but if he won't even sit and exchange with Luis Collazo, it makes me think Thurman is worried about his chin. Body shots like the one that hurt him happen, that doesn't speak to his punch resistance, but we've seen him hurt in other fights from head shots.

His time is coming. As soon as he's put in a real 50/50 fight he's getting beat.

Agreed, if khan has a chin he'd batter Thurman. I think porter takes him and I don't even rate porter highly. Brook can possibly Stop run time too.

My mind still boggles at the no. 3 ranking that most boxing 'fans' and so called experts were giving him.

I'd love Bradley to s ch ool the hypejob too

He's a good fighter but to me he was never anything special at all. I don't want to make this a national thing, I made a thread about this a while back, but people took it the wrong way. What I meant and will reiterate now is that American fans expectations of what a top American prospect/champion looks like is nowhere near what it should be, this is because the current quality is not that great, even the hype which Spence is getting is over the top. These guys are good fighters but are being labelled the next big thing, because they are the current best, but they are not that great. I don't see a young Mayweather, or even a Terry Norris/Zab in any of these guys.

Thurman is a good fighter who will win some and lose some, he will not shine above the current crop. The holes in his game are starting to show up the longer he stays at world level, this is normal, but people who don't have necessarily have a keen eye for the subtleties of boxing are also starting to see it now.

The problem is they can't really move Thurman slowly now as the division is stacked, I think you have to put him in with a Porter or even Bradley who is slightly over the hill, its sink or swim time for Thurman.

People are going to be looking for his body also so he is going to have to improve that area, for this reason I would keep him away from a Maidana for now.

You make good points but I honestly do not see the 147lb division being stacked.

Beyond Pacquiao, Bradley, Mayweather and possibly Khan/Brook, who is there? Porter is limited and basic. Maidana is just fat. Alexander is inconsistent. Thurman wouldn't be in a top 10 in some of the better divisions in boxing. Who have I missed?

Even mentioning Brook/Khan, they are levels below May/Pac and some ways below Bradley. Khan is too chinny and Brook probably doesn't have the best engine.

147 is a division with 2 stars, one underrated talent and some decent fighters who probably wouldn't touch world level in better divisions.
