Comments Thread For: Hopkins' Coach: Mayweather-Golovkin is a Super Fight

Naazim Richardson, best known as the head trainer for living legend Bernard Hopkins, sees a catch-weight fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Gennady "GGG" Golovkin as being a bigger spectacle than Mayweather's May mega-fight against Manny Pacquiao - which drew 4.5 million pay-per-view purchases and half a billion in revenue.

Golovkin, who the IBO/WBA middleweight titles, is willing to drop down to the junior middleweight limit of 154-pounds, where Mayweather holds the WBC/WBA titles.

"I would lose that 100 pounds." lol Love Naazim and agree with everything he says here. It'd be a super fight and a great event, but Floyd doesn't need to do it. He's accomplished everything already. The one criticism that we can level at Floyd is that he doesn't like to take big risks, or to shock us with daring to go beyond what's expected of him. But that's okay - not every fighter is B-Hop. Skills wise, and accomplishment wise, Floyd is king of this era.

I'm with Naazim, i'd also lose the 85 pounds it would take to get to welterweight in order to fight Floyd for the kind of money they are paying. Of course i'd have no legs and would have to be pushed to the ring on a wheelchair but i'd be enjoying life like Chino afterwards.

Are guys like Porter and Thurman big enough names to deserve a Mayweather fight?? Well, even though he's a rough house crowd pleaser, Maidana seems to have been a big enough name despite having had a tough time getting the better of old man Morales and being shut out by Devon Alexander - and Chino got to fight Floyd twice. Okay, he maybe merited the second try after bringing good action first time up but did his resume make him more deserving of the initial shot than Porter or Thurman would be no? I don't think so. As to whether either guy has anything that would actually threaten Floyd, that's another matter.

100% agreed. He doesn't need to do it but it'd be incredible if he did.

Maidana had the wbc world championship belt, he's the reason Floyd and Pac were unifying three belts instead of just two, Ortiz had the WBA. In other words, Floyd would have gone into the pacquiao fight without a belt if he didn't have those two guys on his resume, don't you think it would have been harder for Floyd to get that 60/40 split without the leverage being a champion provides?

GGG @ 154, is the only "mega-fight" available! I think Lara could beat Floyd @ 154, but no one would pay to see it. I think it will be Khan, live on CBS!

I don't think any fight will be as "BIG" as Mayweather vs. Pacquiao, but Mayweather vs. GGG @ 160 would be legendary! In fact, I would pay $100 to see Floyd fight for the MW title, but NOT for a SWW fight.

Either Mayweather outboxes Golovkin or GGG batters Floyd over the distance. But it's a fantasy fight, it'll probably, or definitely, never ever happen anyway.
