Comments Thread For: Bryant Jennings Hires John David Jackson as Trainer

Coming off his decision loss to division king Wladimir Klitschko in late April, heavyweight contender Bryant Jennings has made a change in his corner. Training him now will be John David Jackson, best known for currently working with Sergey Kovalev.

"We just started, our first camp will be towards the end of August," said Jackson, who is preparing Kovalev for his July 25th fight against Nadjib Mohemmedi.

Good fit. If JDJ could get some power out of Algieri, maybe he could do the same with Jennings. Everybody wants to be like Kovalev.

A great move for Jennings. I thought Jennings did a tremendous job in the Klitschko fight and came to win. He has a winner's mentality and under Jackson's tutelage I see him taking care of most heavyweights - maybe all but Klitschko.

Think he could work on his balance and he'd get off with some better shots.

Always thought he had a slight hitch in his delivery as well - like he had to think about what he's going to do for a split second, to make sure his feet were in the right position, it not as natural as it could be. Also there was a lot of times where he really couldn't see much as he rushed in on Wlad, his head was down looking at the canvas and was rarely in position to throw as he came in...all his weight was propelling forward.

All in all, he did OK with the champ - once again he got stronger as the fight went on imo... there's still something to work with.

Algieri(kickboxing) and Jennings both took up boxing late - I consider both to be quick learners - this should yield results.

John David Jackson is about putting guys on their back . Expect more aggression from Jennings going forward.

Jennings is some good raw material to work with, don't think he'll ever be champ but could see him in a Ken Norton Sr role. Guy who really gives people problems and looking back was a really good, underrated fighter..

Like Tony Thompson who also was a late starter/bloomer.
Would like to see Jennings vs. Wilder or Povetkin.

That's quite a complement as Ken Norton was a natural athlete: "excelled in multiple sports at Jacksonville High School. According to a 2002 State Journal-Register story, Norton’s track coach, Al Rosenberger, entered Norton in eight events in a dual meet against Decatur Eisenhower.
Norton, a 1961 Jacksonville graduate, won seven of the eight. It led to the Illinois High School Association limiting athletes to four events in a meet. It’s still known as the Norton Rule.

“I’ll always remember what a great natural athlete he was,” said Buford Green, a longtime sports writer and editor for the Jacksonville Journal-Courier and later for The State Journal-Register.
“He admitted he never lifted a weight. He was just a natural athlete. He was talented in a lot of fields. He’d earned all-state football honors in leading Jacksonville to a 9-0 mark in 1960. And he was proud of Jacksonville.”
Holy Cross 2, Sacred Heart 1: Monty Sanders scored from outside the box resulting from a yellow card in the 87th minute to lift the host Crusaders to their first victory. Tommy Utaro tallied in the 5…

Lol, Jennings will probably be back on HBO before Klitschko! HBO boxing has become a complete joke that delivers sub-premium bouts and 50-1 blowouts on a regular basis.
