Kell Brook vs Brandon Rios Almost A Done Deal - Only Rematch Clause Holding It Up

Promoter Hearn insists the Briton is entitled to an immediate return bout if he loses his IBF welterweight belt on September 12 as it's a voluntary defence.

Kell Brook's planned clash with Brandon Rios has hit a snag over the champion's demand for a rematch clause.

Brook's promoter Eddie Hearn has pencilled in the IBF welterweight title clash for his show on September 12 at London's O2 arena, which will also feature rising heavyweight star Anthony Joshua.

But Rios' promoter, Bob Arum of Top Rank has taken issue with Hearn's demands for a rematch should Sheffield fighter Brook lose his crown to the American.

Hearn is confident this hurdle can be overcome though, and says rematch clauses are standard practice when champions such as Brook are making voluntary defences.

"The fight with Rios is not yet totally done," said Matchroom MD Hearn.

"There are some things to sort out.

"I was on the phone to Bob Arum and there's talk about rematches. But it is a voluntary defence and so there will be a rematch clause.

    "That's standard procedure.

    "If it's a mandatory, 'Tough s***'. But if it's a voluntary - 'No problem, there's a rematch clause.'"

Loooks like Brandon "Bout Riches" Rios has the Brits shivering in their knickers lol! If Kell wants the biggest payday of his career, hes going to have to give into the A-side demands, so no rematch, he's lucky Rios is even giving him the fight in England, Rios must want to expand his groupie love accross the pond. Rios is turning Dinero to Pounds, real quick...

Honestly don't see how Rios has any shot besides Brook gassing out.

I don't even know why we need this fight tbh, it doesn't do much for me.

I like watching Rios fight, but they should match him up with someone who will fight with him. Rios is going to be a punching bag like he was against Pac.

Are you really putting Brook on the same level as Pac? It may look more like Abril vs Rios, Brooks is going to be hugging Rios like he missed him...

Honestly Rios has very good shot at winning and that's the only reason Hearns and Brook want the rematch clause, and not only that but the rematch has to held in the United Kingdom.

Brook inside is very average and Rios is probably the best inside boxer in boxing.
